Meet the Founders
Ashley and Sally’s story began in 2014 in the halls of a labor & delivery unit, where they met as young night-shift nurses. What started as shared shifts quickly turned into something much deeper.
Sally, an outgoing social butterfly with a gift for making fast friends, wasted no time welcoming Ashley into her orbit. Ashley who is naturally funny (sometimes without even trying) pulled Sally right in with night-shift shennanigans. Ashley, 100% willing to say yes to someone so fun and lighthearted, happily accepted the friendship — and the rest is history.
Both only children from Memphis, Tennessee, they quickly realized their connection went far beyond work. They shared the same faith, similar values, a deep love for community, and a natural rhythm in how they approached both life and nursing. They simply worked well together.
Over the years, they have walked through life side by side — celebrating milestones, navigating trials, enduring a pandemic, and supporting one another through it all. Through every high and low, one thing remained constant: their friendship.
Today, they still serve in the medical field, just in different roles than when they first met. Sally now runs a high-acuity unit, leading with strength and compassion. Ashley serves women and families at a high-risk pregnancy clinic, continuing her heart for patient care in a new way. Though their roles have evolved, their partnership has not.
Life Outside the Scrubs
Ashley
Ashley currently resides in Plano with the love of her life, Shane, the most beautiful and kind bonus daughter to ever exist, and their two doggies who keep life joyful and just a little chaotic. Home for her is filled with family dinners, laughter, cozy evenings, and gratitude for the life they’re building together.
While she spends her days caring for high-risk pregnancy patients, her heart is equally invested in nurturing her own little world at home — where faith, family, and community take center stage.
Sally
Sally calls Garland home and truly lives life large. She participates in all things Dallas has to offer — from local events and new restaurants to spontaneous outings and nights with friends. If something fun is happening, Sally is probably already there (and invited everyone she knows).
Strong, independent, and full of joy, she is also patiently waiting for that once-in-a-lifetime love to sweep her off her feet. Until then, she’s building a life that’s vibrant, full, and entirely her own.
How Did The Common Thread Begin?
Like many great ideas, it started around a table.
Crafting nights with friends.
A little wine.
A lot of cheese.
And an undeniable love for gathering.
What began as simple evenings of creativity and connection quickly revealed something bigger. They saw how powerful it was to bring women together — to create, to laugh, to rest, to share stories, and to leave feeling lighter than when they arrived.
Sally and Ashley realized they weren’t just hosting craft nights — they were creating community.
So they did what they’ve always done best: they ran with it.
The Common Thread was born from friendship, faith, resilience, and a shared belief that creativity has the power to connect us all.
Because in the end, the real craft isn’t just what you make with your hands — it’s what you build together.
Who We Are
-
The Common Thread started with a simple idea: crafting brings people together. What began as small gatherings to learn knitting, crochet, sewing, and paper arts has grown into a vibrant community where creativity and friendship flourish.
-
We preserve time-honored crafts, inspire modern creativity, and strengthen community bonds—one stitch, project, and shared table at a time. Through workshops, retreats, and club-style gatherings, we cultivate meaningful relationships rooted in tradition, hospitality, and community.
-
Community: We believe in the power of shared experiences.
Creativity: Everyone has something unique to make.
Tradition: Honoring crafts that connect us to the past.
Learning: Encouraging growth, skill, and confidence.
